Project overview
The Women into Building Housing Showcase was launched in July 2009 by Sam Sheppard of The Buildmore Group.
The project is driven by Sam's belief in creating job opportunities, support and encouragement for women in the building and construction industry. The objective of the showcase is to elevate awareness and acceptance of women who choose the industry as a career of choice.
The showcase will also bring attention to the importance and increasing interest in environmental passive design, small lot housing and sustainable principles.
This project will be a collaborative venture between Sam Sheppard (The Buildmore Group team), key stakeholders, participants and trade partners associated with the building industry.
Concept
The Buildmore Group has purchased a 360sqm block of land from Investa.
The land is situated in the Master Builder's Display Village in Investa's Bellflower neighbourhood, Sippy Downs. The display village was officially launched on 3rd March 2010. The Buildmore Women into Building Housing Showcase will officially launch on April 23rd 2010; when our National Patron, Senator Kate Lundy will do the honours.
A team; including women ranging from architects and engineers to trades people, have designed and constructed a sustainable and environmentally designed showcase home.
This project is an opportunity for women to network and build links with established women in the industry. Mentorship is a strong element of the project with young participants receiving first hand guidance and encouragement form key figures of the building industry.
Through the support of industry bodies, www.constructmycareer.com.au and CPSISC will distribute nationally; still images and videos compiled during design and construction of the Women Into Building Housing Showcase. Industry associations, career advisors and schools will receive copies depicting the vast array of career trade/vocations of women actively participating within the building industry.
It will be the first time a project of this scale has been completed through the labour and promotion of a predominantly female team in Australia.
On completion, the showcase will be on display for two years.
Through the project, The Buildmore Group is creating job opportunity, developing education pathways, raising awareness of the industry and women in building and providing two years of funding. Sale from the property will go towards covering expenses funded by The Buildmore Group.
