We are proud to present and salute the following Role Models; each of these inspiring ladies demonstrate skill and knowledge in their chosen fields, within the following categories;

Construction Team

Each of the ladies in our Construction Team have committed to work as an effective team, collectively contributing their knowledge, cooperation and talent to construct this showcase as a benchmark that demonstrates the outstanding quality, ingenuity and resourcefulness women bring to this dynamic building industry. They represent the coalface of changing perceptions; whereby the building industry offers many opportunities for those who are committed and determined to succeed, regardless of gender.

*Your name:* Naomi Cassimatis.
*Age group:* 26-35.
*Your role title/trade within the Building Industry:* Licensed Carpenter.
*What is involved in training for your role?* A four year Apprenticeship as well as a Business Management course.
*How/why did you get into your chosen trade?* I always wanted to do a Trade since high school and was always really good at Manual Arts (wood work and industrial skills).
*What obstacles have you overcome on your path into and through the Building industry?* In the beginning I had a lot of trouble finding an apprenticeship and had a lot of hang-ups from builders when I rang around looking for an apprenticeship. But then finally I had an opportunity to pick from two after 2 or 3 months of looking. Ever since I’ve been in I've only had a couple of people try to hold me back but have found it hasn’t discouraged me in the slightest, as I have a lot of support from friends, family and other work colleagues.
*Lessons learned?* Don’t let anyone take the wee out of your Hammer. LOL.
*Why do you think it is important to help establish a name and better recognised opportunities for females in Building?* I think we are just as good if not better in some aspects of any trade and definitely deserve the opportunity to prove anyone who doesn’t agree, wrong.
*What are your goals for the future?* I’d like to build up my reputation in the industry and with future studies turn my carpentry company into a well known construction company who didn’t loose sight of the small jobs who helped me on my way.
*How do you effectively deal with your workplace culture?* I don’t have to deal much as I find I seem to fit right in. I’m a tomboy at heart who likes to be a bit girly on my weekends.
*Has there been a role model you have looked to for inspiration?* Yes I have a couple. My mum, Nicole Cassimatis. As she has worked through a lot of obstacles also being in the industry. Also she has been my biggest fan along the way and is there whenever I loose sight or feel like I’m drowning. The other is Jeff Gourley from Cutting Edge Carpentry. I met him when I was a 2^nd yr apprentice and he has been nothing but inspiration since. He has helped me so much that words can not describe how thankful I am. I’d also have to say newly in my life Sam Sheppard. I see how much she has done with the Buildmore Group and all the awards she has won and been nominated for and it has not only opened my eyes up to more opportunities that are there for the taking but gives me something to strive for.
*Naomi's inspirational message:* The only thing that is holding you back from what you want or your dreams is you. All you have to do is give it a go, and who knows it could be the best thing to ever happen to you. Don’t be afraid of failure, it will only make you stronger.
